We’re always delighted to hear about the successes of projects that we’ve been involved with. Many of these are contractors, architects and designers whose amazing work is recognised at different industry awards.
But this time – it’s the turn of the buildings themselves.
In the Museum of the Year Awards, the Young V&A in East London came out on top. Jenny Waldman, director of the Art Fund and chair of the judges, called the museum “truly inspirational”.
As part of the £13M refurbishment, which took three years, Diespeker supplied and installed a cone of green marble, partly real stone and partly painted, which leads into the ‘Play’ Gallery, one of three themed galleries. This area is a textural landscape of different materials and colours, from the smooth of the marble to furry, sparkly and bumpy! Perfect for children up to the age of 5. We also supplied seating and a small section of flooring in the same marble.
One of the four other finalists was the National Portrait Gallery, where again Diespeker played a part in the building’s multi-million pound refurbishment project, which also took three years. This time our involvement was supplying over 50 new plinths for a variety of busts, created in six different marbles. You can read more about the NPG project here.
Congratulations to all the finalists, the NPG, Craven Museum in Skipton, North Yorkshire Dundee Contemporary Arts and Manchester Museum and of course to the deserving winner, the Young V&A.
