Diespeker & Co recently completed a challenging request for a unique marble feature wall in the new reception area of a major office upgrade in the centre of the Thames Valley.

The 40,000sqft offices, which underwent a £5M refurbishment during 2014, were remodelled to offer greater performance efficiency alongside sustainability and design innovation. The double height reception with its arresting marble wall and desk were key to the aspirations of the developers to create statement offices attractive both to local and international companies looking for a stylish town centre base.

To create the bespoke wall, ADS Joinery appointed Diespeker for the company’s high quality skills with natural stone. Diespeker worked from drawings to achieve the striking design; marble panels on different planes with return sections and inset strips of LED lighting.

The marble selected was vein cut Travertine Classico from Italy. The marble block was cut in Diespeker’s London factory using the latest Italian cutting machinery. All external corners were mitred in the factory.

The bulk and height of the feature wall, at 6 metres, required particular attention to the setting. As a marble specialist, Diespeker advised on fixings and jointing, ensuring a totally secure installation whilst maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the feature.

Marble slabs were supplied both in standard 20mm and less common 30mm thickness. This was due to the unusual height of the installation.

Diespeker also created the desk using the same Travertine marble, to match the feature wall exactly and give a sensation of cohesion. The result is an arresting reception area that gives the new offices an exclusive appearance.
