Student accommodation has changed dramatically in recent years. From utilitarian blocks of rooms with little or no character to stunning living areas with spacious ensuites, welcoming shared spaces, and state of the art gyms.
Scape Group is one of the largest providers of purpose-built student accommodation in the UK and Australia. Founded in 2012 on the idea that students deserve better. The rooms are sensitively designed to provide top quality accommodation, while there are plenty of extras for shared spaces to encourage the development of student communities.
The new standards are reflected in the choice of materials, and Diespeker is delighted to be involved as a supplier of terrazzo. In 2020, for Scape Brighton we created a statement L-shaped terrazzo reception desk incorporating contemporary oak drawers and shelves, and atmospheric up-lighting and downlighting.
Most recently we contributed to the new Scape Leeds accommodation. The building comprises a 32 storey tower and 11 storey lower block offering 660 student rooms. The ground floor includes a gym, and cinema, along with communal kitchens, study rooms and break out areas, with a fourth floor terrace providing outside space.
Diespeker’s contribution to this superior student accommodation is a beautiful, poured resin terrazzo floor within a glass bridge that links the internal atrium with the reception area.
It’s a stunning bespoke design, which in itself shows the attention to detail that has gone into the project. With a combination of segmented colours this is a highly unusual design which adds not only practical, hard-wearing flooring but also an aesthetically pleasing, funky ambiance for the students.
The Diespeker team found real satisfaction installing the floor in sections along the length of the bridge, seeing the segments taking shape ready to take on the challenge of huge amounts of student footfall in the new term.
